With a letter sent by Minister Crosetto to his Israeli counterpart, Katz, the Italian government has suspended the renewal of Memorandum of Understanding between Italy and Israel on cooperation in the military and defence sector<\/em>. The document was originally signed in Paris on 16 June 2003 and ratified by Law no. 94 of 17 May 2005, came into force in June 2005 in Italy<\/a>, and in April 2006 in Israel. The renewal would have kicked in, until 2031, starting from today, 14th April 2026, but Crosetto's letter was sent yesterday, as confirmed by various sources in Kritica, as well as other publications such as Public Policy<\/a>. Secondo il testo dell\u2019accordo stesso, se quella che \u00e8 stata inviata \u00e8 \u2013 come dovrebbe essere a rigore \u2013 una \u201cdenuncia\u201d, ora dovrebbe aprirsi una finestra di tempo di sei mesi durante la quale affrontare i punti di controversia fra le parti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il governo israeliano ha minimizzato l\u2019importanza dell\u2019evento, ma il Memorandum rappresenta in verit\u00e0 un documento di cooperazione importante con notevoli implicazioni sia sul piano della ricerca e sviluppo dell\u2019industria militare e cybertecnica, sia sul piano della cooperazione in materia giudiziaria. Le ragioni per cui il governo Meloni ha preso una simile decisione sono state spiegate in modo vago, ma pi\u00f9 fonti confermano che decisivo sarebbe stato l\u2019ultimo attacco a un convoglio italiano di UNIFIL, avvenuto in Libano il 7 aprile scorso, dopo il quale il ministro degli Esteri Antonio Tajani aveva convocato l’ambasciatore israeliano in Italia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foreword<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ITMOD and ISMOD, hereinafter referred to as \u201cthe Parties,\u201d recognising the importance of cooperation between the two Ministries and their respective Defence Forces, expressing the desire that the Ministries and their respective Defence Forces cooperate to the benefit of both, based on mutual respect, trust, and recognition of the Parties' interests, convinced that cooperation between the Parties contributes to a better understanding of their respective military and defence needs and strengthens their respective defence capabilities, in a spirit of openness and mutual understanding and within the framework established by Italian and Israeli laws and regulations, agreeing that this MoU serves as a General MoU between the Parties and that, for the specific activities to be carried out under this MoU, specific Implementation Agreements will be discussed and agreed upon, the Parties have agreed to the following understandings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Article 1 \u2013 General Part<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. In the event of any disputes between these Terms and Conditions and the Implementation Agreements, the terms and conditions of this MoU shall prevail and the dispute shall be settled in accordance with these.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The Parties agree that a Party that finds contradictions between these Terms and Conditions will inform the other Party with the aim of resolving them as soon as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The Parties shall cooperate by common accord and in accordance with their respective laws and international commitments, with a view to encouraging, facilitating and developing cooperation in the military and defence fields, on a reciprocal basis.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Article 2 \u2013 Objectives of the Agreement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Both Parties to this MoU agree to establish reciprocal relations between the Ministries of Defence and their Armed Forces, in order to establish cooperation in the defence sector, which will allow them to enhance defence capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Co-operation between the Parties shall cover the following areas:<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
